- No, it means a connect speed of 24000bps or 2400 CPS.

- Why would you want to? You should be using a modem to computer link
- speed as high as your computer can run, typically a 28800 or 33600 bps
- modem should be run at 115200 bps DTE speeds. I got over 10000bps reading
- a web page last night. That can happen only with compression and ONLY if
- the DTE rate is high enough to allow the modems compression/decompression
- to function.
-
- A V.34 type modem properly setup will tend to connect at the fastest
- supportable speed as determined by phone line conditions and will also seek
- the best speed with no intervention on the users part.
-
- But.. keep in mind, the speed reporte at connection is irrelevant. Zooms
- tend to report low, and connect faster NOW. Previously they tended toward
- the opposite condition.

- No. Unless you know a GREAT deal more about your line conditions, it is
- probable that 24000 is the best you could get at the time. Just make sure
- your retraining, error correction are enabled (which they almost certainly
- have to be to get any performance) and that you use the highest DTE rate
- your computer will support without generating a lot of errors.
